The food business operator carries primary responsibility (AGES); for cosmetics the responsible person's name and full postal address (street, postcode, town; a web address alone is not enough) must be on container and packaging, plus country of origin for non-EU imports.

Packaged food is read against the LMIV (EU 1169/2011), with a mandatory seven-element nutrition declaration per 100 g/100 ml, plus Austrian national origin rules for meat, milk and eggs; cosmetics follow Art. 19 of 1223/2009 and the Kosmetik-Durchführungsverordnung, and retailers must check the labelling is in German.

Health claims may only be used if authorised in the EU register under 1924/2006 / 432/2012 and disease-related claims are banned, including online; supplements need no Austrian notification since 2006, so the brand owner alone answers for the claim.
